Buffalo’s Amazing Garden Tour – 2014

“Buffalo!? Is, ah, Buffalo a place with good gardens?” several perplexed people enquired when I mentioned my plans to take in Garden Walk Buffalo during the last weekend of July.  My, answer? An enthusiastic “oh yes!”

Garden Walk Buffalo 2014For twenty years the fine gardeners of Buffalo have been opening up their gardens for Garden Walk Buffalo (for free!) and let me tell you, they know how to put on a show! Not only are they skilled at choosing and growing interesting plants, but they know how to stage them to really show them off to their best advantage. For the most part, they seem to be able to judge when they have just the right amount of garden “art” in order to keep things interesting without going over the top (ok, a few people don’t know their limit–but they’re in the minority).

We spent two exhausting, exhilarating days touring the gardens. Here are my highlight photos (double click the first one and it will enlarge, allowing you to scroll through them all at full screen size):

With somewhere in the neighbourhood of 400 gardens participating in Garden Walk Buffalo, this gallery represents just a small snippet of the great gardens treasures to be seen. It’s worth the drive to Buffalo!

What an inspiring gallery. So now Buffalo Gardens are on my garden tourism “to do” list.
